Dr. Gail Levine
Dr.
Gail Levine is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and
Associate Professor at Kingsborough Community College In Brooklyn in
the Program in Sports, Fitness and Therapeutic Recreation. She
obtained her Ph.D in Therapeutic Recreation in 1993 from NYU's
School of Education and has also taught at Lehman College and
NYU.
Dr.
Levine has long been involved with complementary approaches such as
Yoga, Tai Chi, Breathwork and Relaxation techniques both as an
individual and a practitioner and as a teacher.

Examine
the many events in Jewish history that have threatened the very
existence of the Jewish people, and how Jewish leaders and
communities have responded to these challenges.

Sandy Winters
Sandy Winters
has been in the field of Jewish education since the late 1960’s.
She holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees, the first obtained in 1960
from Boston University and the second in 1985 from Baltimore Hebrew
University. In 1962 she earned her Master’s from Columbia
University’s Teachers’ College.
Between
1968 and 1991, Sandy worked in Jewish education, teaching and
administration at Temple Emanuel, Beth Israel, and Beth Tfiloh
Community Day School. Additionally, for several years, she taught
Bible and Jewish history and directed an Israel tour-study program
for Baltimore Hebrew High School. Between 1989 and 1995, Sandy
worked as an adjunct faculty member at Baltimore Hebrew University.
She is currently an instructor at the Florence Melton Adult
Mini-School.

Jewish Masters of Modern Art
From
the Bohemian quarter of Paris in the early 1900’s to America in
the mid 20th century, examine the exciting
contributions of an international mix of Jewish artists including
Modigliani, Lipshitz, Soutine, Chagall, Weber, Rothko, Shahn and
others.
Speaker: Dr. Dennis Raverty
Dr. Dennis Raverty has an extensive background as an art history
teacher. He holds degrees from the University of Minnesota (BA) and
the University of Iowa (MA) in art history and a Ph.D. from
Rutgers University. His
teaching credentials include several years at Rutgers and the
University of Iowa, School of Art and Art History where he
specialized in Western Art. He also taught in the Minneapolis Public High Schools,
offering classes in history, business, psychology and art. Mr. Raverty has held numerous administrative positions for
various museums and art colleges.
He spent a number of years as the Chairman for Public
Exhibitions at Boston Visual Artist’s Union in Boston, MA, and
is currently an Administrative Consultant for the Sidney Mishkin
Gallery in New York City.
A
Mosaic of Jewish Folk Art: In Song and Crafts
Programs will
include examinations of Yiddish song genres, Jewish papercutting
and scribal arts, and contemporary Judaica and ritual art. Come
surround yourself with the beauty of our culture!

Susan Leviton
Internationally
known calligrapher and Yiddish song expert Susan Leviton brings an
exciting mix of Jewish arts and music to Block and Hexter,
guaranteed to spark your interest and allow you to see and hear in
new ways. Susan's warm approachable teaching style welcomes everyone
into the circle, and her singing voice seems a perfect vehicle for 'mameloshn'
(Yiddish!)
Susan is a regular faculty member at Elderhostel, KlezKamp,
Workmen's Circle, and the National Yiddish Book Center, and teaches
as scholar in residence at colleges and Jewish communities
throughout the US. She has recorded both with the Old World Folk
Band, and as a solo performer, and is featured on "Live From
KlezKamp - the Staff Concerts."
